Calcutta Football League

The Calcutta Football League (CFL)
Asia’s Oldest Legacy. The World’s Greatest Rivalry.
The Calcutta Football League (CFL) is the heart and soul of West Bengal. Founded in 1898, it is the oldest football league in Asia and one of the oldest in the world. For over a century, the Maidan has been the hallowed ground where legends are forged and where the identity of Indian football was born.
The CFL Pyrami: The CFL currently operates as a massive seven-tier pyramid system, managing over 160 clubs and 8,500+ registered players every year.
Premier Division: The elite tier, featuring 26 teams including the "Big Three"—East Bengal, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, and Mohammedan SC.
The Structure: The league flows down through the Premier Division to the 5th Division (Groups A & B).
Pathway to National Glory: The top-performing teams in the Premier Division (not already in the ISL or I-League) earn promotion to the I-League 3, placing Bengal at the center of India’s national football roadmap.
The Maidan Culture
The CFL is more than just a league; it is a way of life. From the iconic "Boro Match" (Kolkata Derby) to the rise of modern challengers like Diamond Harbour FC and United SC, the league remains the most watched and most talked-about state league in the country. With modern broadcasting reaching millions via IFA TV, SSEN and regional channels, the CFL continues to be the ultimate testing ground for every aspiring footballer in India.
